Getting the Most from Your Telemetry

Which files give the best analysis, how recording rate affects detail, and common data-quality limits.

Best files

  • RaceChrono, RaceBox, VBOX and GPS CSV files give the full analysis: position, speed and any extra channels your logger recorded.
  • GPX files give position and GPS-derived speed only.
  • Brake, throttle, RPM, gear and G-force are only used if your file actually contains them — Racer IQ never fills them in.

Recording rate matters

  • About 9 times a second (9 Hz) or more: section times plus speed detail around slow points.
  • 4–9 Hz: section times and approximate minimum speeds.
  • Below 4 Hz: only a coarse split of the lap into thirds — no corner-level advice.

Tips for good data

  • Mount the phone or logger with a clear view of the sky; an external GPS receiver helps a lot.
  • Record the whole session, including out and in laps — pit and stopped laps are left out automatically.
  • Make sure the car, track and layout are right when you import.

Good to know If GPS drops out or jumps around, Racer IQ marks those laps as unusable and won't give section advice from them. Sector times from timing sheets are not used for this analysis.
